found in mid-April in the San Francisco Bay, several miles north of where
Scott Peterson said he went fishing on Christmas Eve. Shortly after the
bodies were found, he was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He
has pleaded innocent and is jailed without bail.
A coroner completed autopsies on the bodies, but no cause of death
has been announced.
SUSPECTS REPORTEDLY IDENTIFIED
Defense sources told NBC News last week that investigators hired by
the defense have identified “four (or) possibly five people” who they
believe actually killed Laci Peterson.
The sources, who spoke with MSNBC’s Dan Abrams on condition of
anonymity, said they obtained the names of the suspects, who they say have
been involved in “Satanic activity,” from a “mystery witness.”

believe when all is said and done, we will see that no satanic design
was at work, because of no marks on the body, and no connection to the
purposed woman, now what you will see is perhaps a woman that died due
to child difficulity (labor) and a less likely to helping husband or
father....if not guilty of more.......but time will tell

the individuals and groups that he was associated with during the
time of post war England were The Circle of Universal Bond (an
ancient Druid order), Ordo Templi Orientris (a German Masonic order),
The Hermetic Order Of The Golden Dawn, The New Forest Coven, and
Aleistar Crowley. These groups, and perhaps others, were influential
on Gardner's creation of
Wicca. Many of the rituals and tenets were taken directly or
indirectly from these groups.
Gardner's Writings
Gardner wanted to
begin publishing some of his beliefs, but as a member of the New
Forest Coven, they wanted him to clear the writings with them first.
The Witchcraft Act of 1735 was still in effect and the group wanted
to maintain its secretive nature. The result was a work of fiction
entitled "High Magic's Aid" (1949).
The Witchcraft Act of 1735 was repealed in 1951.
Gardner responded with a
non-fiction work entitled "Witchcraft Today" (1954). This was the
first true book specifically on Wicca.
It is interesting to note that the Ripley museum has a
handwritten text entitled "Ye Booke of Ye Art Magical" which they
claim is the original book of shadows. Doreen Valiente (1922-1999)
confirms that the text is written in
Gardner's hand and has
earlier versions of rituals that would appear in
Gardner's later work.
These rituals are also closer to versions that appear in the work of
Aleistar Crowley.

The Divine Dance
Through the vibrant and spirited art of Indian classical dance, Western yogis have found a new way to connect with traditional Indian culture.

A single female dancer emerges from the darkness of the stage. Her presence is immediately captivating, the air suddenly fragrant with her appearance. Adorned in jewels from head to toe, radiant in a special red and gold sari, her long dark hair crowned in jasmine, she is the embodiment of the divine feminine, mirroring the images of goddesses from Lakshmi to Saraswati one sees everywhere in India. She begins her dance with an offering: With her hands in Namaste (Anjali Mudra), she dances her way to the altar to release a river of flowers over the golden image of Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance. The rhythm begins. "Ta ka dhi mi taka dhe," a singer chants to the beat of a two-sided drum. Her dance unfolds from that moment in a spiral of complex movements driven by rhythmic foot patterns, precise hand gestures, and facial expressions arrested in sculpted postures in which time stops for a moment before the rhythm begins again. Even though her story is not familiar to me, I am lost in the grace of every expression and the pure stamina of her dance, which builds and releases through movement and stillness until, in a final crescendo of rhythmic fire, it ends in the stance of Shiva as Nataraja: her left leg crossed in front of her and extended to her right, as is her graceful left arm, while the right hand forms the Abhaya Mudra, which says, "Have no fear."
With that encounter, I first fell in love with the world of Indian classical dance some 12 years ago while studying at Delhi University. I had come to India as a student of both anthropology and Ashtanga Yoga, ready to immerse myself in Indian culture. After being blown away by an evening concert featuring all the many styles of Indian classical dance—Bharata Natayam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Kathak, Mohini Attam, and Manipuri—I found my way to an Odissi dance class at the Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi. It was here that I experienced the yoga of dance: postures, known as karanas, that reminded me of yogic standing poses in their grounding through open hips and strong legs; an intense concentration, as my awareness was asked to be everywhere at once; and an underlying relationship to the body and movement as a sacred means of unifying the Self. My study of dance started to transform my experience of Ashtanga Yoga; I started to push less and feel more, using the form to cultivate a unified consciousness and an inner grace.
Dance and Yoga: The Divine Connection
In the Hindu tradition, gods and goddesses dance as a way of expressing the dynamic energy of life. The image of Nataraja represents the god of gods, Shiva, as the Lord of the Dance, choreographing the eternal dance of the universe as well as more earthly forms such as Indian classical dance (which is said to have originated from his teachings). In Hindu mythology Shiva is also Yogiraj, the consummate yogi, who is said to have created more than 840,000 asanas, among them the hatha yoga poses we do today. While a cultural outsider may not relate to these mythic dimensions in a literal way, dancers in India revere the divine origins of their dances, which were revealed to the sage Bharata and transcribed by him into the classic text on dance drama, the Natya Shastra (circa 200 c.e.). What many practitioners of yoga do not know is that one of the central texts of yoga, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, written around the same time, was also inspired by an encounter with Nataraja.
Srivatsa
Ramaswami, Chennai-based yoga teacher, scholar, and longtime student of
yoga master T. Krishnamacharya, includes a pivotal story of how
Patanjali came to write the Yoga Sutra in his book Yoga for the Three Stages of Life
(Inner Traditions, 2000). In Ramaswami's account, Patanjali, a young
man with a great yogic destiny, is drawn to leave home to do tapas (intensive meditation) and receive the darshana of Shiva's dance. Eventually Shiva becomes so taken by Patanjali's ekagrya
(one-pointed focus) that he appears before Patanjali and promises to
reveal his dance to the young yogi at Chidambaram, a Nataraja temple in
present-day Tamil Nadu. At Chidambaram, Patanjali encounters a golden
theater filled with many divine beings and sages. To Patanjali's
wonderment, Brahma, Indra, and Saraswati start to play their sacred
instruments. Shiva then begins his ananda tandava ("dance of
ultimate bliss"). As Ramaswami tells it, "The great tandava starts with a
slow rhythm and in time reaches its crescendo. Engrossed completely in
the divine dance, the great sages lose their separate identities and
merge with the great oneness created by the tandava." At the end of the

For yoga teacher and Anusara Yoga founder John Friend, who has been inspired by Indian classical dance forms and is presently coauthoring a book on a Tantric view of the Yoga Sutra, the relationship of Patanjali and Nataraja is a key to understanding yoga as a living art. "The image of Nataraja connects yoga and Indian dance as art forms expressed through the body," says Friend. "Shiva is dancing out of his own delight, and it's the vibration of his joy that creates the longing to move. He is so full of bliss that he can't stand still. Indian classical dance forms express all of the emotions of the human experience. Western yoga students can learn a lot from these forms, whether through observation or study, to bring out the inner expression of yoga."
Body As Temple, Dance As Offering
The first movement I learned from my Odissi master dance teacher, Surendranath Jena, was Bhumi Pranam. Just as Suryanamaskar (Sun Salutation) honors the sun, this movement honors (the translation of pranam is "to bow before or make an offering to") bhumi, the Earth. Bhumi Pranam is done before and after every practice and every performance. With hands together in Anjali Mudra, I was taught to bring my hands above my crown, to my forehead (Ajna Chakra), the center of my heart, and then, with a deep opening through the hips, to touch the earth. Bhumi Pranam expresses the essence of dance as a sacred offering that recalls B. K. S. Iyengar's famous saying, "The body is my temple and asanas are my prayers." In this case, dance is the offering; indeed, in classical forms such as Bharatha Natayam and Odissi, the dance actually originated in temple complexes, where 108 karanas were sculpted into the walls of temple entryways. These detailed reliefs reflect the traditional prominence of temple dancers known as devadasis ("servants of God"), who are thought to have incorporated some elements of yoga practice into their art. According to Los AngelesÐbased master teacher Ramaa Bharadvaj, "Of the 108 postures sculpted on the temples, only about 40 are part of the dance we do today. The rest require an extreme flexibility that would have been impossible without some training in the yogic arts."
In the temples, the devadasis were the primary conduits for the pujas (ritual offerings) performed in front of the sanctums for the audience of the Divine. According to Roxanne Gupta, Kuchipudi dancer, scholar, assistant professor of Religious Studies at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, and author of A Yoga of Indian Classical Dance: The Yogini's Mirror (Inner Traditions, 2000), "The devadasi was revered as a living symbol of the goddess's shakti, or life-giving power." When the devadasi danced, she became the embodiment of the divine, intending to transform the space being danced in as well as the audience's visceral understanding, says Boulder, Colorado-based Sofia Diaz, a scholar who leads workshops on combining Bharata Natyam and yoga. "In Indian classical dance," she says, "every posture, every expression is considered an invocation to the Divine to incarnate, to be felt as a presence in the here and now of the dancer's body." The devadasi tradition began around the fourth century c.e. and continued into the twentieth century, when it was outlawed by the ruling British and Indian elite and transformed from a purely temple-based devotional tradition into a national art form.
There are only a few living devadasis left, and Bharata Natyam is usually done in a way that emphasizes entertainment (while still demonstrating a depth of devotion rarely seen on the stage). The text of Natya Shastra unites the various forms of Indian classical dance by means of a ritual performance format that is still followed (with some variations among different styles). Many forms begin with an invocation to the Divine, or pushpanjali ("offering through flowers"), to root the dance in sacred expression. A pure dance section called nritta follows, showing with great skill the movement vocabulary of the form and the union of the dancer with tala (rhythm). The heart of a dance performance involves abhinaya, a combination of dance and mime in which a dancer or dancers will embody characters of a sacred story cycle by expressing the lyrics and rhythm of accompanying songs through body language, hand mudras, and facial gestures. The songs are based on mythic stories such as the Shiva Purana, Gita Govinda, or Srimad Bhagavatam.
The most common storyline uses a classic bhakti (devotional) theme based on the longing of a lover (the devotee) to reunite with the beloved (the Divine), as typified in the popular story of Radha and Krishna. As Ramaa Bharadvaj notes, "Dancing is bhakti yoga, which is based on the structure of duality—lover and beloved, masculine and feminine—that leads to oneness. I love duality. I love falling in love with God through the characters of my dance. Although I feel the presence of God inside, I also like to embrace the Divine outside." The climax of abhinaya is similar to the culmination of a divine lovemaking: a crescendo of complex patterns and fullness of emotions that overwhelm both dancer and audience. The piece then slowly cools down from that climax and ends in pure dance, with a closing slokha (dedication to the Supreme). Says Bharadvaj, "At the end of my dance, I have reached my meditation."
The Balance of the Sun and Moon
While there are many philosophical and practical connections between yoga and dance, the principle of unifying opposites is essential to both systems. Practitioners of hatha yoga are often told that the word "hatha" represents the figurative joining of the sun (ha) and the moon (tha), respectively masculine and feminine energies. On a practical level, this often translates as the balance of differing qualities within a pose: strength and flexibility, inner relaxation and focus. Within Indian classical dance forms, this balance of the masculine and feminine is understood as the balance of tandava and lasya. Tandava is associated with strong, vigorous movements and is considered to be the vibrant dance of the virile Shiva. Its complement, lasya, the dance of Shiva's consort Parvati, embodies graceful, fluid movements. Dances are often classified as being tandava or lasya in the same way that certain asanas or pranayamas are classified as heat-generating or cooling. In Odissi, tandava and lasya become embodied within the structure of the karanas, with tandava being the lower body and lasya the upper body. Tandava is the strong stamping of the feet, like Shiva, and lasya is the fluidity in the torso and the grace of the hand movement or mudras. Cerritos, California-based Odissi dance artist and teacher Nandita Behera often describes tandava and lasya to her students through imagery: "I tell them, ÔLet your lower body be like thunder, powerful and strong, and your upper body be open and graceful like a flower in full bloom.' When dancing, the lasya, or grace, of the dance should not be disturbed by the power of tandava, nor should the lasya weaken the expression of the vitality of tandava." Good advice not just for dancers, but for healthy relationships and a balanced life. In Kuchipudi dance, a solo dancer can embody the two qualities in the form of Shiva Ardhanarishvara whose visage is half male (Shiva) and half female (Parvati). In costume, the dancer will dress differently on the two sides of the body and will perform the characters of both parts by showing one side or the other. Dance teacher and choreographer Malathi Iyengar sees this dance as a symbol of integration: "Every human being has tandava and lasya in her or him. At various times, depending on what is needed, the masculine or feminine comes out—in the dance forms and in life."
From Alignment to Mastery
Another area where dance and hatha yoga meet is in the actual sadhana (practice), where there are many parallels between the two arts in both the technique and spirit (bhava) of the dance. The tradition is passed from guru to shishya (student) in a live transmission; the teacher gives the proper adjustments and guides the students into the inner arts of the practice. All of Indian classical dance refers back to the Natya Shastra text for an elaborate classification of the form. If you thought the technique of asana was detailed, you should peruse the Natya Shastra: It not only describes all the movements of the major limbs (angas)—the head, chest, sides, hips, hands, and feet—but also offers a detailed description of the actions of the minor limbs (upangas)—including intricate movements of the eyebrows, eyeballs, eyelids, chin, and even the nose—to create specific moods and effects. As in hatha yoga, one begins with the basics of body mechanics and gradually moves toward the subtler aspects of the art. The karanas, dance counterparts of asanas, are linked into a sequence known as angaharas. Ramaa Bharadvaj compares angaharas to the flowing yoga of vinyasa, in which the "dance" of yoga is experienced as the linking of one asana to the next through the breath. "Even though a posture can be held," she says, "it is really part of a flow. It's like the Ganges coming down from the Himalayas: Although it passes Rishikesh and then Varanasi, it doesn't stop; it keeps flowing." Like the alignment of asanas, the karanas are based on the center line of the body in relation to gravity and include not only placement of the body but also attention to the pathways of energies that flow through the body.
The dance forms emphasize staying grounded, relating all of the movements with gravity to the earth, then reaching to the heavens. As Malathi Iyengar points out, "In some Indian classical dance, the forms are done close to the earth, with a focus on opening the hip joints, as in Padmasana. In dance we are basically imitating the bent-knee position of the deities such as Krishna and Shiva. We believe this aesthetic was given to us by God."
The emphasis on stilling the mind through concentration on the inner and outer bodies, moving the practitioner toward an experience of freedom, also parallels the inner processes of yoga. When I was first learning the basic steps of Odissi, it took all ofmy concentration to keep a strong and consistent rhythm with my feet while tilting my head and eyes in opposition to my torso. I felt very mechanical and awkward, just like many beginning students of yoga. Only through repetition and focus on precision did I start to feel a flow of grace, or lasya. Watching the more experienced dancers practice and perform gave me a deep respect for the mastery that is the eventual fruit of so much sadhana.
Accomplished dancers transmit an aura of ease, joy, and playfulness, despite the degree of skill required. The greater the mastery of the dancer, the more breathtaking even the simplest movements become. As dancer-choreographer and yoga student Parijat Desai notes, "As in yoga practice, Indian dance begins to feel natural after long struggles with technique. Then letting go and feeling the dance feels beautiful and free." Ramaa Bharadvaj adds, "When Radha is dancing for Krishna, she isn't thinking about how perfect her posture is."
Studying Odissi gave me enough patience with my Ashtanga Yoga practice to allow me both to embrace technique and to let go. Both processes can lead to a state of embodied communion. Ultimately, yoga is about connecting to the Big Dance, which one can experience either abstractly, through the lens of spiritual culture, or more intimately, as did physicist Fritjof Capra. In his book The Tao of Physics (Shambhala, 2000), he describes the experience he had while he was sitting on the beach and watching the waves, observing the interdependent choreography of life: "I 'saw' cascades of energy coming down . . . in which particles were created and destroyed. I 'saw' the atoms of the elements and those of my body participating in this cosmic dance of energy. I felt its rhythm and Ôheard' its sound and at that moment I knew that this was the Dance of Shiva."

The people that we identify as Celts were a group of tribal peoples that inhabited a large geographic area. To identify them as a single people, by a single name, is much like calling all the various tribes of peoples indigenous to the Americas by the name Native Americans. Just as the Native Americans have been grouped by their geography by scholars into sub classifications such as the Plains Indians and Eastern Woodland Indians, Celts have been sub classified by geography into Irish, Welsh, Continental, Cornish, Manx, Breton and Scottish. Within these groups, there were individual clans or tribes with their own names, like Carnute or Senone.Each Celtic clan had its own set of deities. Within those sets there were not only gods and goddesses, but also heroes that were raised to godhood in the generations after their death. Because of the commonality of some names, there seem to be divinities with conflicting characteristics who actually are separate divinities with the same name, for example there are several different men named Connla who were all local heroes whose legends gave birth to godhood in their prospective tribes. There are also divinities with similar characteristics and correspondences that have different names because of tribal differences; the Irish goddess Danu and the Welsh goddess Don are an example of this phenomenon. The focus of this article will be on some of the gods and goddesses of the Celtic pantheon and will not include the legendary figures. The scope of this article is intended to be an introduction to a few central figures that serve as a foundation for the Celtic pantheon.
The Gods and Goddesses discussed here are specific to Celtic mythology, but find counterparts in other mythological systems. Those familiar with other mythological systems, such as Greek, Roman, Teutonic, or Egyptian may find correspondence between the deities named here and deities in those systems. Religious or mythological systems often bear similarity, though we don't always know how or why those similarities are there.
One feature of Celtic divinities is that they are very human in nature. They have human forms, although some are credited with the ability to shapeshift into animals. They have human emotions, including jealousy and affection. They undertake human crafts, like weaving, metalworking, carpentry, masonry, and even mundane things like cooking. The gods and goddesses of the Celts do not have animals as their primary form, nor are they usually hybrids of animal and human form The gods and goddesses discussed here symbolize either ideas like love or wisdom, or features of nature like the earth itself or the woods.
Danu - Danu is known as the mother of both gods and people. Some sources list the Tuatha de Danaan, the people of Danu, as becoming the fairies who are generally held to be the ancestors of the Irish. In legend, after the Tuatha de Danaan are defeated by the Milesians, they retreat to the sidhes, the caves and hills of Ireland, become invisible, and their movement becomes attributed to fairies. Danu is sometimes portrayed as the mother of Dagda, who in turn is the father of several other gods and goddesses. She is not usually paired with a consort. She is a represented by earth and waters. She is the life giver. Danu is the goddess of rivers, water, wells, prosperity, magic, and wisdom. Danu is also known as Dana, Anu, and Don. Correspondences for Danu include the directions of east or south, the moon in all phases, amber, stones with holes in them, and blood.
Bridget - Bridget is perhaps the most well known of all the Celtic goddesses. Her following was so strong that the Catholic church absorbed her as St. Brigit, the foster-mother of Christ, and kept her festival as the feast of St. Brigit Bridget is sometimes seen as a triple goddess, the maiden, mother and crone that symbolize the cycle of life, and sometimes as only the mother aspect of the goddess. She is the goddess of the hearth, fertility, martial arts, healing, physicians, agriculture, inspiration, learning, poetry, divination, prophecy, smith craft, animal husbandry, love, and protection. Bridget is celebrated at Imbolc, the turning of winter. Bridget is also known as Brid, Bride, and Brighid. There is speculation the aspects of the mother goddess, Danu, were later absorbed by Bridget. Correspondences for Bridget include the direction north, blackberries, fire, wells, milk, the waxing moon, lambs, and the heart.
The Morrigan - The Morrigan is portrayed both as a single goddess, and as a triad of crone goddesses who were named Macha, Nemain, and Babd. The Morrigan was said to feed on the emotions of battle. She cast her magic of confusion upon the field, but in most accounts does not physically participate in the fight. She is often portrayed as a crow flying and screeching above the melee. She is also known as the washerwoman at the ford, who is seen washing the clothes and gear of the soldiers by those soldiers destined to die in that battle. The Morrigan is the goddess of priests, fresh water, revenge, night, magic, prophecy and strength. The Morrigan is also known as the Morrigu. Correspondences for the Morrigan include the direction west, the raven and carrion crow, obsidian, rubies, waning and dark moons, yew, onyx, belladonna, nightbane, and black dogs.
Cerridwen - Cerridwen is often portrayed as a hag stirring a cauldron, the typical image of Halloween. Cerridwen is one of the goddesses most associated with shape shifting. She is often portrayed as a sow, for her attribute of fertility. A legend of Cerridwen has it that she wanted to create a potion of knowledge for her son, so she concocted it and set it to simmer for a year and a day. She had Gwion take care of the potion and stir it, but at the end of the appointed time, he splashed some on his fingers and licked it off. Cerridwen was furious that Gwion had deprived her son of the knowledge, and vowed to kill Gwion. Gwion hid from her and he himself shapeshifted to avoid her. Eventually he became a grain of corn and Cerridwen became a hen who ingested him, then gave birth to the bard Taliesin. Cerridwen is the goddess of grain, death, fertility, regeneration, inspiration, enchantment, divination, herbs, science, poetry, knowledge, and shapeshifting. Correspondences for Cerridwen include the direction west, pigs, hens, cauldrons, vervain, acorns, and the dark moon.
Dagda - Dagda is father god very much in the tradition of the Greek Zeus. He is said to be the father of Brighid, Lugh, Aengus MacOg, and a host of other deities. He is a warrior with a club that can kill nine at one blow, a musician with a harp that sets the seasons in order, and a good provider with a cauldron of plenty. He is known as the "good god" and yet he is also known to have human failings, including a temper that sometimes gets the best of him and an unquenchable desire for beautiful women. One famous incident of his sexual desire is that he seduces Boann, the beautiful wife the water god Nechtan. Boann was afraid of her husband's reaction to her adultery and convinces Dagda to use his power over the seasons to cause the sun to stand still until their son, Aengus MacOg, was born. He is the god of earth, heavens, and magic. Correspondences for Dagda include the directions north or west, the harp, the elder tree, and the sun wheel.
Lugh - Lugh was the fair-haired golden god of many talents. He is the god of light, harvest, fire, metallurgy, weaving, and protection. Lugh was said to have mastered many skills, he is known as a carpenter, mason, poet, Druid, and goldsmith. One legend of Lugh says that he knocked at the gates of Tara, the legendary keep of the gods, and asked to be admitted. When he was asked what his talents were, and why he should be admitted he asked if they had a warrior, a maker of jewelry, a smith, a scribe and so on. He is told after every inquiry that yes, Tara had one of those, finally he asks if Tara has a single one who can do all he mentioned. Of course Tara did not, so Lugh was admitted to Tara. He was also known as a warrior, and his nickname Lugh, the long armed refers to his prowess in battle. Lughnasadh is named after him in his harvest aspect. Correspondences for Lugh include the direction east, lynx and raven, topaz and obsidian, looms and all grains.
Cernunnos - As an exception to the Celtic gods being primarily human, Cernunnos is portrayed as having stag horns atop his head. He is also identified as a possible source of the "Green Man" figures and legends. He is sometimes paired with an earth goddess, such as Danu as a consort, and sometimes named as the son born at winter solstice. He is linked both with fertility in the human sense and fertility in the animal and plant worlds as well as the protection of the woodlands and propagation of wildlife. Cernunnos is one of the deities with murky and sometimes conflicting myths surrounding him; there is no single source that actually lists him. Knowledge of Cernunnos is by inference, there is only one incomplete inscription with his name, but there are several visual representations of him found in Europe ranging from Romania to Ireland. Regardless of the lack of verifiable information about Cernunnos, he has been embraced by neo-Pagans and is a firm entity in the Celtic pantheon. Like Danu, he seems to be one of the most ancient of the Celtic pantheon. Cernunnos is the god of virility, fertility, animals, sex, nature, woodlands, reincarnation, crossroads, wealth, commerce and warriors. Correspondences for Cernunnos include the direction west, stags and rams, the oak, and peridot.
Aengus MacOg - Aengus MacOg is a god of intense, and sometimes described as fatal, love. One legend of Aengus MacOg is that of helping the lovers Diarmuid and Grainne escape when they fell in love, even though Grainne was pledged to another. Even though Grainne's intended eventually caught up with them and Diarmuid was killed by an enraged boar set upon him by the jilted lover, Aengus MacOg was said to have breathed life back into Diarmuid. Aengus MacOg is the god of love, life, dreams, soul, beauty, youth and creativity. The kisses of Aengus are said to become birds. Correspondences of Aengus MacOg include the direction north, cinnamon, sapphires, rose quartz, red roses, bowls, and copper.

Some
of you may know I've been redisovering alot ever since I ended it with
my boyfriend on February 15. I've dealt with all the family stuff and
got things in my bedroom exactly the way I want even to the point where I
now have a permanent circle set up. Having my kitten Selene come into
my life has brought a sense of stability I didn't know I was longing
for.
Now comes the hardest work of all. I need
to be honest with myself and deal with the unresolved feelings I have
about my exboyfriend. The friend I share a house with has told me that
ever since the breakup I have been snapping at anyone and everyone who
has gotten close to me. It has gotten to the point where it is both
worrying and annoying her. June 9 would have been our 2 year anniversary
of getting together and that is bringing up stuff I should have dealt
with 3 months ago.
The next few weeks will be
difficult but this is stuff that needs to come out so I can move on. If
anyone knows anything I can do to ease the emotional distress this is
causing, even what crystals I should be using or wearing, please let me
know.

The Buddha's journey to spiritual awakening or 'Nirvana,' as it
is popularly called, perfectly mirrors the above mentioned
progressive development of a hero.
The Call to Adventure:
Gautam Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha, in the lap of
luxury. Exposed to an overdose of riches and comfort right from
the beginning, the prince, while still relatively young,
exhausted for himself the fields of fleshly joy, thus becoming
ripe for a higher, transcendent experience.
The young prince remained glued to his pleasure chambers and had
no contact with ground reality. His palace, and the sensual
pleasures which it contained, were his only limiting worlds.
Once, after a particularly hectic schedule of sensual frenzy,
Siddhartha was suddenly awakened from his blissful sleep, in the
middle of the night. Surrounding him were the remnants of last
night's debauchery and revelry. The sight of the shameless naked
flesh and the overflowing wine pitchers jarred him into the
unreality of his own reality. He felt suffocated in those very
environs which had once given him what he thought were the
pleasures of paradise. He immediately arose form his gold-gilded
bed, descended the stairs and asked his favorite charioteer to
take him to an open space where he could breathe more freely.
He had traveled only a few miles when he came across a sight
which was totally new to him in terms of the distressing emotions
it stirred up in the innermost depths of his heart.
Right in front of him was an old man, tottering on a stick, his
physical frame entirely ravaged by the trials of time. Never
having been exposed to such an image, Siddhartha asked his
charioteer who that individual was, and why he was the way he
was?

"man is no longer a distinct individual but his mind widens out
and merges into the mind of the mankind - not the conscious mind,
but the unconscious mind of mankind, where we are all the same."
Jolted from his subliminal dream state, the immediate horror of
his temporal circumstances made Siddhartha, the future Buddha,
realize his own cutting of from this eternal dimension of life.
Thus a feeling of rootlessness gripped him and he felt himself
disjointed and lonely, even amongst the multitude of those who

You throw off yesterday

to go. The hero leaves a certain social situation, moves into his
own loneliness and finds the jewel. This departure occurs when
the hero feels something has been lost and goes to find it. It is
the crossing of the threshold into a new life. It is a dangerous
adventure, since one is moving out of the known into the
unexplored, unknown sphere.
The disenchanted prince Siddhartha believed that he was setting
out on an exciting adventure. He felt the lure of the 'wide open'
road, and the shining, perfect state of 'homelessness.'
But even then, it was not easy enough for him to leave behind the
structured space of his home for the untamed forests. Texts
mention that before finally leaving his palace, he could not
resist the temptation to take a last peek at his wife and son
sleeping upstairs. But his resolve was strong enough to bear the
emotional brunt of the separation. Not looking back again, he
went directly to his destined quest.
Trials and Tribulations of the Journey
When he set about on his journey, the Buddha did not know what
lay in store for him. What he did know was that:
The goal of life
is to make your heartbeat
match the beat of the universe,
to match your nature with Nature.
The joy of the hero's adventure lies in exploring the unknown,
through which nature unfolds and reveals its hidden treasures.
The Buddha too experimented with various unexplored avenues,
before coming to the ultimate spiritual realization.
He first tried asceticism. Since he believed his disillusionment
to stem from the cravings of his body, his first reaction was to
negate it totally, even to the extent that he stopped eating.
Consequently, his bones stuck out like a row of spindles, and
when he touched his stomach, he could almost feel his spine. His
hair fell out and his skin became withered. But all this was in
vain. However severe his austerities, perhaps even because of
them, the body still clamored for attention, and he was still
plagued by lust and craving. In fact, he seemed more conscious of
himself than ever. Finally, Buddha had to face the fact that
asceticism had failed to redeem him. All he had achieved after
this heroic assault upon his body was a prominent rib cage, and a
dangerously weakened physique.

Nevertheless, Buddha was still optimistic. He was certain that it
was possible for human beings to reach the final liberation of
enlightenment. And at that very moment, when he seemed to have
come to a dead end, the beginning of a new solution declared
itself to him. He realized that instead of torturing our
reluctant selves into the final release, we might be able to
achieve it effortlessly and spontaneously, as Campbell says:
What you have to do,
you have to do with play.
Opportunities
to find deeper powers
within ourselves
come when life
seems most challenging.
This was a momentous event in Buddha's journey towards herohood.
Rather than relying upon external discourses or props, he
awakened to the fact that he would have to delve into the
infinite depths of his own inner being to come up with the
Eternal Truth.
Having thus resolved, he accepted the bowl of milk-rice offered
to him by Sujata, the milk-maiden.

After eating this nourishing dish, the texts tell us, he strode
majestically towards the bodhi tree (tree of life), to make his
last bid for liberation.
The tree of life is said to be standing at the axis of the
cosmos, and is a common feature of salvation mythology. It is the
place where the divine energies pour into the world, where
humanity encounters the absolute, and becomes more fully itself.
We need only recall the cross of Jesus, which according to
Christian legend, stood on the same spot as the Tree of Knowledge
of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. The hero as the
incarnation of god is himself the navel or axis of the world, the
umbilical point through which the energies of eternity break into
time. More than a physical point, it is a psychological state
which enables us to see the world and ourselves in perfect
balance. Without this psychological stability and this correct
orientation, enlightenment is not possible.

Hence, seated at the spiritual center of the world, Buddha dived
into his own inner universe. As he sat in isolated meditation,
the potential hero gave himself to the practice of mindfulness.
This practice consists in observing, as a detached observer, all
our activities: eating, drinking, chewing, tasting, defecating,
walking, standing, sitting, sleeping, waking, speaking, and
keeping silent.
He noticed the way ideas coursed through his mind and the
constant stream of desires and irritations that could plague him
in a brief half hour. He became 'mindful' of the way he responded
to a sudden noise or a change in temperature, and saw how quickly
even a tiny thing disturbed his peace of mind. This mindfulness
was not cultivated in a spirit of neurotic inspection. Buddha had
not put his humanity under the microscope in this way in order to
castigate himself for his 'sins.' The purpose here is not to
pounce on our failings, but becoming acquainted with the way
human nature works in order to exploit its capacities. He had
become convinced that the solution to the problem of suffering
lay within himself and deliverance would come from the refinement
of his own mundane nature, and so he needed to investigate it,
and get to know it objectively. This could be achieved most
effectively through extasis, a word that literally means 'to
stand outside the self,' and which is the same as the practise of
mindfulness.
As Buddha thus recorded his feelings, moment-by-moment, he became
aware that the dukkha (suffering) of life was not confined to the
major traumas of sickness, old age and death. It happened on a
daily, even hourly basis, in all the minor disappointments,
rejections, frustrations, and failures that befall us in the
course of a single day. True, there was pleasure in life, but
once he had subjected this to the merciless scrutiny of
mindfulness, he noticed how often our satisfaction meant
suffering for others. For example, the prosperity of one person
usually depends upon the exclusion of somebody else, or when we
get something that makes us happy, we immediately start to worry
about losing it.
As Buddha observed the workings of his mind, he realized how one
craving after another took possession of his heart. He noticed
how human beings were ceaselessly yearning to become something
else, go somewhere else, and acquire something they do not have.
Blinded in our desires we almost never see things as they are in
themselves, but our vision is colored by whether we want them or
not, how we can get them, or how they can bring us profit. These
petty cravings assail us hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute, so that
we know no rest. We are constantly consumed and distracted by the
compulsion to become something different than what we are at
present.
'The world, whose very nature is to change, is constantly
determined to become something else,' Buddha concluded. 'It is at
the mercy of change, it is only happy when it is caught up in the
process of change, but this love of change contains a measure of
fear and insecurity, and this fear itself is dukkha.'
This constant changing whirlpool of dynamic flux characterizes
our temporal existence and dominates it so thoroughly that we
lose touch with the eternal essence of our lives, remaining
subsumed only in the fleeting and passing moment of current time.
Buddha realized that he just had to find that essential link in
his inner being, which bound the transient to the eternal. Our
existence is defined by our mortal self, and also an immortal
divine spark underlying it. When we have found the bridge that
links the two, we have attained salvation.
Brooding in this manner, Buddha finally was on the verge of
enlightenment, when he was confronted by Mara, Buddha's shadow
self, or the residual forces within him which still clung to the
old ideals he was trying to transcend. Mara came out decked like
a Chakravartin (World Ruler), seated on an elephant, and
accompanied by a large army.
Mara's name means delusion. He symbolizes the ignorance which
holds us back from enlightenment.

As a Chakravartin, he could only envisage a victory achieved by
physical force. Mara thus was convinced that the spiritual
throne, where Buddha was sitting, belonged rightfully to him.
Accordingly he challenged Buddha to vacate the seat. But the
Buddha only moved his hand to touch the ground with his
fingertips, and thus bid the goddess Earth to bear witness to his
right to be sitting where he was. She did so with a hundred
thousand roars, so that the elephant of the antagonist fell upon
its knees in obeisance to the rightful owner of the throne. The
army was immediately dispersed and Mara vanquished.
The earth-witnessing posture, which shows Buddha touching the
ground with his right hand is a favorite icon in Buddhist art.

It not only symbolizes his rejection of Mara's sterile machismo,
but also emphasizes the profound point that it is the Buddha who
is a true Chakravartin, since it is through the heart that a
lasting empire is won, and not through the sword.

Attainment of Enlightenment:
Having thus overcome Mara, Gautama crossed the final obstruction
to his enlightenment, and won over to Buddhahood. He called this
blissful state of immeasurable peace 'Nirvana.' Nirvana literally
means blowing out or snuffing out (as a flame).
But Nirvana did not mean personal extinction: what had been
snuffed out was not Gautama's personality, but the three fires of
greed, hatred and delusion, which were once the basic impulses
governing his behavior. Through his practice of mindfulness,
Gautama had come to the conclusion that it was these three
negative traits that were at the root of all suffering in the
world.
The extinguishing of a flame is invariably followed by a certain
coolness. It was this coolness that descended into Gautama's
heart and permeated his each and every core. The permanent
retention of this feeling is Nirvana, which is similar to the
cooling experienced when recovering from a fever. Indeed in
Buddha's time, the related adjective 'nirvuta,' was a term in
daily use to describe a convalescent.
Return of the Hero:
Having attained enlightenment, the hero-quest has been
accomplished. The adventurer now has to decide what to do with
his life-transmuting trophy. The full round or cycle of his
adventure requires that he now start the process of bringing back
to humanity the boon of illumination granted to him. This is the
call which the mythical hero often refuses. The Buddha too
doubted whether his message of realization could be communicated
at all. It is in this context that he is given the title of
Shakyamuni. Shakya derives from the fact that he was a descendent
of the Shakya clan, and muni is a Sanskrit word for silent. The
message here is that Nirvana is something that could not be
described in words.
The Buddha further thought that: 'If I taught the Dharma, people
would not understand it and that would be exhausting and
disappointing for me.'
But failing to heed the call to return is not fulfilling the
complete requirements of the heroic cycle. It is a part of the
hero's evolutionary destiny to knit together the world of higher
spiritual bliss with the mundane world of everyday existence, as
he had bridged together transient time and eternity.
At this crucial moment of uncertainty, the god Brahma intervened.
Like Mara, he too was a projection of Buddha's subconscious mind,
the only difference being that he was a positive projection.
Brahma requested Buddha to 'look down at the human race which is
drowning in pain and to travel far and wide to save the world.'
There was no way in which the compassionate Buddha could refuse
this call. He understood that staying locked away in his personal
Nirvana would be a negation of all that he had achieved, it would
be like entering a new kind of pleasure palace, such as that of
his father which he had left behind a long time back. The Buddha
thus carefully listened to Brahma and gazed upon the world with
his eyes full of compassion, realizing that the gates of Nirvana
were wide open for all, and he was the destined instrument to
lead humanity it.
The Buddha spent the next forty-five years of his life tramping
tirelessly through the cities and towns of Northern India. Indeed
there were no limits to his compassionate offensive.
Conclusion:
The essential message of Buddha's life is that each of us
(irrespective of sex or creed) is capable and deserving of
Nirvana, having a potential Buddha hidden in us. Buddha was born
an ordinary mortal. His path to fulfillment was not smooth and
uneventful. Rather it was a journey full of exciting experiences
and mistakes made. He learned from each of his mistakes, making
it a springboard for all future, and finally the ultimate
success. The day we realize and awaken the Buddha within, that
would be our own Nirvana, which though personal, would bind us to
all humanity like never before.

pleasures of paradise. He immediately arose form his gold-gilded
bed, descended the stairs and asked his favorite charioteer to
take him to an open space where he could breathe more freely.
He had traveled only a few miles when he came across a sight
which was totally new to him in terms of the distressing emotions
it stirred up in the innermost depths of his heart.
Right in front of him was an old man, tottering on a stick, his
physical frame entirely ravaged by the trials of time. Never
having been exposed to such an image, Siddhartha asked his
charioteer who that individual was, and why he was the way he
was?

old ideals he was trying to transcend. Mara came out decked like
a Chakravartin (World Ruler), seated on an elephant, and
accompanied by a large army.
Mara's name means delusion. He symbolizes the ignorance which
holds us back from enlightenment.

As a Chakravartin, he could only envisage a victory achieved by
physical force. Mara thus was convinced that the spiritual
throne, where Buddha was sitting, belonged rightfully to him.
Accordingly he challenged Buddha to vacate the seat. But the
Buddha only moved his hand to touch the ground with his
fingertips, and thus bid the goddess Earth to bear witness to his
right to be sitting where he was. She did so with a hundred
thousand roars, so that the elephant of the antagonist fell upon
its knees in obeisance to the rightful owner of the throne. The
army was immediately dispersed and Mara vanquished.
The earth-witnessing posture, which shows Buddha touching the
ground with his right hand is a favorite icon in Buddhist art.

It not only symbolizes his rejection of Mara's sterile machismo,
but also emphasizes the profound point that it is the Buddha who
is a true Chakravartin, since it is through the heart that a
lasting empire is won, and not through the sword.

Attainment of Enlightenment:
Having thus overcome Mara, Gautama crossed the final obstruction
to his enlightenment, and won over to Buddhahood. He called this
blissful state of immeasurable peace 'Nirvana.' Nirvana literally
means blowing out or snuffing out (as a flame).
But Nirvana did not mean personal extinction: what had been
snuffed out was not Gautama's personality, but the three fires of
greed, hatred and delusion, which were once the basic impulses
governing his behavior. Through his practice of mindfulness,
Gautama had come to the conclusion that it was these three
negative traits that were at the root of all suffering in the
world.
The extinguishing of a flame is invariably followed by a certain
coolness. It was this coolness that descended into Gautama's
heart and permeated his each and every core. The permanent
retention of this feeling is Nirvana, which is similar to the
cooling experienced when recovering from a fever. Indeed in
Buddha's time, the related adjective 'nirvuta,' was a term in
daily use to describe a convalescent.
Return of the Hero:
Having attained enlightenment, the hero-quest has been
accomplished. The adventurer now has to decide what to do with
his life-transmuting trophy. The full round or cycle of his
adventure requires that he now start the process of bringing back
to humanity the boon of illumination granted to him. This is the
call which the mythical hero often refuses. The Buddha too
doubted whether his message of realization could be communicated
at all. It is in this context that he is given the title of
Shakyamuni. Shakya derives from the fact that he was a descendent
of the Shakya clan, and muni is a Sanskrit word for silent. The
message here is that Nirvana is something that could not be
described in words.
The Buddha further thought that: 'If I taught the Dharma, people
would not understand it and that would be exhausting and
disappointing for me.'
But failing to heed the call to return is not fulfilling the
complete requirements of the heroic cycle. It is a part of the
hero's evolutionary destiny to knit together the world of higher
spiritual bliss with the mundane world of everyday existence, as
he had bridged together transient time and eternity.
At this crucial moment of uncertainty, the god Brahma intervened.
Like Mara, he too was a projection of Buddha's subconscious mind,
the only difference being that he was a positive projection.
Brahma requested Buddha to 'look down at the human race which is
drowning in pain and to travel far and wide to save the world.'
There was no way in which the compassionate Buddha could refuse
this call. He understood that staying locked away in his personal
Nirvana would be a negation of all that he had achieved, it would
be like entering a new kind of pleasure palace, such as that of
his father which he had left behind a long time back. The Buddha
thus carefully listened to Brahma and gazed upon the world with
his eyes full of compassion, realizing that the gates of Nirvana
were wide open for all, and he was the destined instrument to
lead humanity it.
The Buddha spent the next forty-five years of his life tramping
tirelessly through the cities and towns of Northern India. Indeed
there were no limits to his compassionate offensive.
Conclusion:
The essential message of Buddha's life is that each of us
(irrespective of sex or creed) is capable and deserving of
Nirvana, having a potential Buddha hidden in us. Buddha was born
an ordinary mortal. His path to fulfillment was not smooth and
uneventful. Rather it was a journey full of exciting experiences
and mistakes made. He learned from each of his mistakes, making
it a springboard for all future, and finally the ultimate
success. The day we realize and awaken the Buddha within, that
would be our own Nirvana, which though personal, would bind us to
all humanity like never before.

The Decrees of Book users of magical rules, sincere but not Witchcraft decrees
1)
Never experiment or practice with magickal applications, symbols, or
systems that you do not FULLY understand. If you do not know the full
gambit of what you are doing, Do Not Do It. Retribution and causalities
can be far reaching and abound in more ways than you can imagine.
2)
Do not link money with your magick. It will effect the outcome and the
caster. Reimbursement for supplies, time, and effort is acceptable but,
never demanded.
3) Never use your skills and abilities to
impress or fascinate someone. The God and Goddess do not need another
arrogant buffoon. You will fail miserably.
4) Do not scare or
threaten others with magickal intimidations or the like. We are
Witches, not thugs. Remember the Law of Three.
5) Know that thoughts are things, and that which you create may and probably will manifest in this reality.
6) Never lie to yourself or others. This is the epitome of deceit. This becomes a circle of self-destruction.
7) All things that are -bad- in your life are most often the result of low self-esteem or negative self-think, not bad luck.
8) The power of a Witch grows in direct relation to his or her wisdom and capability.
9) Nothing can harm you or control you unless you allow it to and believe that it does.
10) Never use your abilities to harm another. However, you may defend yourself, and the ones you love, the best way you see fit.
11)
Always do the best that you can do. No one is perfect but, we try to
constantly improve ourselves and to evolve. Have faith. The God and
Goddess will take care of you in the best possible manner.
12)
As long as you adhere to what you believe in, do not worry about the
ridicules of others. Ridicules are the result of fear, low self-esteem
and self-doubt. Do not waste your time on such nonsense.
13) Regard property of another better than you would have them regard your own. Be respectful.
14) Do nothing that would endanger the Craft or someone of the Craft.
15)
Do not do something that will bring about conflict with the law of the
land. Do mind your beliefs, the beliefs and laws of your Coven, and the
beliefs and laws of your Clan - above all others.
16) Witches
may teach to others outside of the Craft if: The environment is safe to
all, The teacher is knowledgeable and responsible, The student is
willing and sincere, The information is already available to the general
public-no secrets, and The information Harms None.
17)
Perform all magick within the circle. This is especially true for
beginners. Only those of great experience and ability may work outside
of the circle.
18) Do Nothing to bring Shame to yourself,
your coven, and your clan. We, as Witches, have a responsibility that
others only speak about but, never fully practice. Each of us is a
direct representative of our religion and the Craft, as a whole.
19)
Always be proud of who and what you are. Know that you are among the
elite and of something far greater than most will ever know. Be proud,
be compassionate, and be kind, for you can afford to be.
20)
Never shed blood in circle . The God and Goddess do not want us to waste
their creations and their children in such a manner. All things are of
the God and Goddess. Respect theirs and ours. Killing is for defense and
survival -only.
21) Always remember that the God and Goddess
are with us. They will provide and protect us. We are never alone. As
such, be mindful and remember.
22) Always keep the laws, the
Rede, and the rules of the coven and clan. They are written for a
purpose and not to fill space on the paper. Keep the laws and they will
keep you.
23) Always follow your beliefs diligently, for they are who you are, and they define you for all to see.
24)
Do not cast spells while sick, ill, or under the influence of drugs or
heavy medication. The results can and probably be extremely baneful.
Always be in complete control of yourself.
25) Do not let
anyone tell you that what you believe in - the Craft- is wrong, evil, or
bad. This is a trick to persuade you to be a puppet of another.

Always keep an open mind to the ways and beliefs of others. We are all
here to learn and grow together. Keep yourself and your beliefs but,
learn from and about others. The higher mind is a diversified mind.
27) Do not mock the way of others. For they may know something you may not -and you might not realize it ...yet.
Now for the Real Decree of Witch workings
1) Never Look down on your workings because your only starting, in time your skill might be more then even you know

Taking payment to set a right is allowed howver you shouldn't exploit
your gift it only shows the lack you have in others finding their own
way....which is their design
3) Reveal your gift for the
teaching of another, if you value anything give what they ask however
only to that extent and don't offer for your own validation,because if
you do you will find it find you.....
4) Give out as you get,
there is no role of 3, or return unless you set something in motion,
nature has its own balances and even if your not trying to fit in it
will fit you...
5) As you grow your energy becomes more then
just your thoughts, so serve the most direct message, because others of
magic will see it in your aura or workings
6) As for balance
you must choice, lie or not, the real will always prove overtime and any
who want this hidden art needs to remember.
7) Energy has no
diffrence on the way you feel good or bad it isn't the energy it is
howver the focus and desire....so focus and desire well

Witches power comes from time and in a witches world time can be sped up
or slowed down depending on connection, not meditation or cheap tricks

Anything can harm you or control you unless your aware of its
intentions, only fools believe that they are imune to real energy or
magic, as in having or being about it...
10) You have no

balances or equaling, so don't take your gifts or insight for

You are to be looked at as special or weird, because you chose to step

Respect is earned so to is the evolvement of magic, any who give respect
and want nothing back is a fool again, because to be respected is to
know or have not just to be accepted as wanting...
14) Do what is best for your charges and your energy, live not just to know, and the rest is magic...

As you enter different worlds, be reminded that they have their own
design and symbols and when you go un-invited be prepared to be kicked
out, or lost...
16) Witches have taught outside the craft
before the crafts social rules was put into order, it is quite natural
to want to show what you work and honor, however the witch understands
that it is the aura and design that makes a more reality based magic
user or witch...
17) Magic's charging has no real lock on an
area or circle, howver if you are starting know that it is best to build
it where it may grow in you and others you share, then expand as it
asks you, because it will....
18) As a witch you have no real
dedication or image until you follow a certain energy design or
working, and if you choice to do this your dedication and field or image
will start to form that working, reality is shown, not said...

As a Witch others will un-aware of their design seek you out, you need
not say even one word, and as such their is no rules to teach by, but if
you choice to assist another, then they will seek the real inside their
heart you need only if asked by nature or another to be open to them...

Blood is a tool of living and is the name from which you came, ie dna,
however in a witches design sacrafice is for those who will never have

the hurt or harm of another, said or not said it is an intent, those
that use any form of witchcraft doesn't share in desire directly, they
only share in the action that others might show or use in Evils or Goods
name, reality will pay what they claim, remember the balance...because

wisdom is the way to great insight howver unless it touches on you it is
merely a different wish in a diffrent direction, all is seen though the
